General Notes: WIFE OF FORMER COUNTY TREASURER DIED FRIDAY Mrs. Hiram H. Slaybaugh, of Auburn Died Suddenly Friday Morning - Funeral Held Sunday Mrs. Hiram H. Slaybaugh, wife of former county treasurer, died at the family home on West Seventh Street in Auburn early last Friday morning. She had retired in her usual health, but was awakened about three o'clock when she called her husband and stated that she was sinking away. The family doctor was called but before he reached the home she had passed away. The funeral was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. S. E. Slater, of the Auburn Lutheran church, officiating and interment took place in the Fairfield cemetery. Mrs. Slaybaugh was a daughter of Daniel Gonser, deceased, and was born in Holmes County, Ohio, in 1855, and came to this county with her parents when she was but two and a half years of age. Eighteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Slaybaugh moved to Auburn after his election to the office of county treasurer, and they have resided in Auburn since that time. Three children were born to them, two sons having preceded her in death. One daughter, Mrs. Edwin C. Trovinger of Auburn, who with her husband and three children, with the husband survive. Two brothers and four sisters - A. W. Gonser, of Ashley, Daniel Gonser, of Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. Ella Miller, of Auburn, Mrs. Cyrus D. Hood; of Garrett, Mrs. Olive Parsell, of Ashley, and Mrs. Curtis Franz, of Michigan also survive. The deceased was a cousin of Mrs. H. C. Willis, of this place. 1 Ada married Hiram H. Slaybaugh, son of Samuel Slaybaugh and Polly, on 29 Oct 1876. (Hiram H. Slaybaugh was born about 1854 and died in Jan 1929.) |
