General Notes:
George Walker - Short Bio George Walker was the son of Charles and Elenor Walker of Ireland, who moved to the United States some time around 1770-1775 and settled in Pennsylvania. George was one of six children in the family. His siblings were: Prudence, born in Ireland; James, born in Ireland; Jane, born in Ireland, Francis, born in the U.S.; and Charles, born in the U.S. George was probably the firstborn in the new world.
George grew up in the Tuscarora Valley of Pennsylvania in Cumberland County (which now is Junanita/Perry Counties). He and his family were Presbyterians, and on March 24, 1791 George married Julian Jean Welsh (aka Julia Ann Welch), who was born in about 1774 and died unknown, in the Centre (or "First") Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Reverend John Linn performed the marriage ceremony.
By about 1795 George, Julian Jean, and most of George's extended family, had moved to what became Knox County, Tennessee, where they settled near the Holsten River. Julian Jean may have died in Tennessee, but it is not certain. Additionally Charles and Elenor, George's parents, may be buried near the Walker farms in Knox County. George, though, apparently survived until 1830 and moved sometime between 1810-1820 to Wayne County, Indiana, where some of his siblings and he settled in a town called Milton.
George and Julian Jean had at least 10 children:
Eleanor Walker, born about 1794 in Pennsylvania, died unknown. Elenor married Thomas Allen, who was born about 1790 in Knox County, Tennessee, and died unknown. They were married December 28, 1820 in Wayne County, Indiana. George Walker II, who was born about 1795 in Tuscarora Valley, Juniata County, Pennsylvania (or else in Knox County, Tennessee), died January 12, 1885 in Darlington, Gentry County, Missouri. June 29, 1827 in Hendricks County, Indiana, George married Sarah Lane, who was born January 3, 1811 and died October 15, 1865 in Gentryville, Gentry County, Missouri. Charles Walker, born about 1796 in Knox County, Tennessee, died unknown. Nothing is known about this particular Charles, although a Charles that it seems likely would be this Charles appeared on the 1830 and 1840 Wayne County, Indiana, census, and another Charles, who very likely is this Charles, was listed as 64 years old and living with his brother James Walker near Hammondsburg in Warren County, Iowa, in the 1860 census . Sarah Walker, born about 1798 in Knox County, Tennessee, died unknown. She married Joseph Campbell, who was born about 1794 in Knox County, Tennessee; it's not known when he died. They were married on April 7, 1821 in Wayne County, Indiana. James Walker, born 1800 in Knox County, Tennessee, died after 1861. James may have married Polly Martin; born unknown, died unknown, on August 8, 1816 in Gibson County, Indiana (James would have been quite young) - for certain before 1860 he married Ann Perkins, who was born about 1802 in Marion County, Indiana. She died before the 1860 census. James and Ann were married February 19, 1835 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Thomas Walker, born December 19, 1802 in Knox County, Tennessee and died February 17, 1883 in Whiteland, Johnson County, Indiana. On September 24, 1829 in Johnson County, Indiana, Thomas married Ann Covert, who was born June 19, 1812 in Mercer County, Kentucky and died April 30, 1873 in Whiteland, Johnson County, Indiana. Jane Walker, born September 7, 1804 in Knox County, Tennessee and died April 27, 1885 in Henry County, Iowa. Jane married Thomas Chapman Leas, who was born in 1802 in Pennsylvania and apparently died before 1850. They were married February 9, 1826 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. Prudence Walker, born 1808 in Knox County, Tennessee, died July 23, 1877 in Henry County, Iowa. Prudence married William J. Hardin, who was born February 12, 1806 in Kentucky and died December 31, 1885. They were married February 21, 1828 in Wayne County, Indiana. Francis Samuel Walker, born May 6, 1809 in Knox County, Tennessee and died March 27, 1888 in Henry County, Iowa. Francis, the grandfather of Samuel Nathaniel Walker, married Catherine B. Pearsey, the daughter of Charles and Martha Pearsey, on September 15, 1831, in Wayne County, Indiana. Catherine was born November 3, 1804 in Rockbridge County, Virginia near the Natural Bridge, and died September 7, 1882 in Henry County, Iowa. Rebecca Walker, born October 22, 1815 in Knox County, Tennessee, died September 17, 1854 in New London, Henry County, Iowa. Rebecca married John Francis Tryer, who was born August 28, 1819 in Miamisburg, Montgomery County, Ohio and died September 2, 1899 in Medford, Jackson County, Oregon. John and Rebecca were married September 20, 1838 in Marion County, Indiana.
George Walker probably died in Wayne County, Indiana between 1820 and 1830.
George married Julian Jean Welsh on 24 Mar 1791 in Centre Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA. (Julian Jean Welsh was born about 1774 and died on an unknown date.)
