  • Marriage (1): Bessie Parr

  General Notes:

Carl was approximately 26 and Bessie was approximately 18 when they got married. Carl had a 6th or 7th grade education and that at the one-room country schoolhouse in Summit. He had blue eyes, an easy going personality and somewhat of a wanderlust. He had two nicknames: "Motsie" was what all his friends would call him; however, in his younger years he had the nickname of "Cocky".

He loved to work in the garage with his wood working equipment. He trademark was a log cabin style birdhouse that he would sell to hardware stores. Additionally, he would make dill pickles, or crack walnuts to give to friends for cooking purposes or spend the day searching the back country roads looking for mushrooms growing in the shade of tall trees.

The cottage, where in later years they lived their summers, had been purchased by way of a trade. Carl traded a building next to a bar that he owned for the cottage that Frank and Gracie Ginivan owned. [editors note: Frank and Gracie are a story in and of themselves. He was a trick-shot artist, they did vaudeville and had a traveling show (pulled by horses nonetheless) that traveled the upper Midwest]. 3
