The following information was provided Tara Burley, granddaughter of L.D. Gramling:

L.D. Gramiling fought in WW2 in the Navy on the LCS(L)(3)-33 (which is a landing craft support ship) the ship earned 2 battle stars for it's service in WW2. His ship was sunk by Japanese kamikaze suicide planes attack, April 12th, 1945 on Radar Picket Station # 1 off Okinawa.

Grandpa was one of the survivors of the sinking, but was shot in the leg. He used to let me feel the casing, which was still in his leg, when I was a little girl. He was also awarded a purple heart. 2
